Photos: Mixed views from Denton’s drone show as locals viewed it differently
Last year, what would’ve been Denton’s debut drone show was washed out by a sudden rainstorm that hit the area, forcing organizers to cancel the event. This time — with no showers in sight — the show presented by the Denton Noon Kiwanis Club went on, but a number of spectators weren’t able to see all of the drones flown by Sky Elements Drones on Wednesday evening from their viewpoint at Quakertown Park.
The Tomato in Denton Has Opened Again (Again)
The Flying Tomato in Denton has certainly got grit. "The Tomato," as it now goes by, has a long history that began on Fry Street, adjacent to the University of North Texas. Anyone who attended school from 1984 to 2007 surely had pizza there. Alas, in 2007 a fire that was an act of arson to protest the commercialization of the area took out the restaurant. The Tomato was gone for good. (Except for a select set of die-hard fans who knew the owners and would pick up pizzas in a Dairy Queen parking lot.)

Lantana woman looking forward to celebrating major milestone
Like so many others, Theresa Marrapodi moved to North Texas to be closer to family. Next month, they will share in her becoming a centenarian. Her 100th birthday is Aug. 6, two days after a private party to recognize the milestone. She will be joined by daughters MaryAnn Cipperly, Annette Smith, and Theresa Pennypacker among others. She has lived with Cipperly in Lantana since 2012 after several years in Flower Mound. Since 2019, they have been neighbors with Smith and for the entire time near Pennypacker in Argyle. One other child – son Frank – lives in Pennsylvania.
