Looking for continuing family-friendly events to indulge in after the Fourth of July?

Several events are scheduled for this weekend in Las Cruces and Mesilla.

Movie marathon at Branigan Library

July 6 the summer movie marathon organized by Las Cruces Public Libraries will be held at the Thomas Branigan Memorial Library.

July's theme is Jules Verne. The library, located at 200 E. Picacho Ave., will screen Journey to the Center of the Earth at11 a.m. At 12:45 will screen The Mysterious Island . At 2:30 p.m. Around the World in 80 Days will be screened.

The event is free and open to the public. Attendees can bring light snacks.

Movie marathons will be held every first Saturday through October.

Celebrate Frida Kahlo's birthday

The Mesilla Valley Film Society and Mesilla Fine Arts Gallery are hosting a birthday celebration for Frida Kahlo July 6.

A screening of the 2002 biopic starring Selma Hayek and Alfred Molina will be screened at 2 p.m. at the Fountain Theatre, located at 2469 Calle de Guadalupe in Mesilla.

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. the fine arts gallery will exhibit artwork and provide refreshments with music and folklorico for visitors.

Oldies in the park

On July 7, Music in the Park series begins at 7 p.m. at Young Park.

The first act scheduled is Truman Provencio. The second act scheduled is Remember Then - Oldies.

Attendees can bring their own blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets.
