LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — More than 35,000 Nevadans aged 60 and older are food insecure. Most of those people live in Las Vegas and struggle to make ends meet. Fortunately, one program is making sure they don’t go hungry.

East Valley Family Services provides essential food to seniors through its Golden Groceries program. Once a month, seniors in need are given bread, vegetables, and canned goods. At the food pick-up, seniors are also given a complimentary breakfast. Typically, 150 seniors show up at the monthly event.

The next Golden Groceries event is Friday, July 5 at 9 a.m. until supplies run out. To qualify a person must be at least 60 years old, and bring identification. These events take place on the first Friday of every month through the remainder of 2024.

East Valley Family Services partners with Three Square for this event to help provide hunger relief through its program.

The event takes place at 1840 E. Sahara Ave., Suite 112. This link has additional information .

In the past few decades, food insecurity among older adults has increased by about 45%, according to Feed America.
