LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A 24-year U.S. Air Force veteran, Leticia Triplett is remembered by her family as a mother and grandmother who was loved and who served her country with honors.
Triplett’s death in a Las Vegas Athletic Academy pool (LVAC) on Feb. 4 has become the center of lawsuits between The Southern Nevada Health District and LVAC regarding a lifeguard requirement.
8 News Now spoke over the phone with a family member of Triplett, who did not want to provide a statement for the media, but instead pointed to information contributed by the family on a funeral home website.
Triplett completed 24 years of service for the U.S. Air Force, completing one tour in Afghanistan in 2008 and serving in South Korea, the Azores Islands, New Mexico, Nevada, and in her home state of Texas.

Following her retirement, Triplett returned to Las Vegas, where previously she worked a civilian job at Nellis Air Force Base for 12 years.
Triplett’s family told 8 News Now over the phone that Triplett was loved by her family across the country, and that she was a caring mother and grandmother.
According to the Perches Funeral Homes’ obituary for Triplett, she was described as thoughtful and compassionate.
“She always remembered birthdays and was the first one to send a birthday card,” the author of the obituary wrote. “She also loved Facetiming her kids and grandkids.”
Triplett was credited as receiving medals and ribbons acknowledging her outstanding service for the Air Force.
“Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, and humbleness,” the author of the obituary wrote.
