A Chicago Transit Authority worker is in custody after police said he shot a man at the 95th Street/Dan Ryan station early Saturday.

Two men got into a verbal altercation around 2 a.m. One of the men began to walk away when the other-- a CTA customer assistant-- pursued him, pulled out a gun, and shot the victim three times, police told FOX 32 Chicago.

The victim was taken to Chicago Medical center in critical condition with gunshot wounds to the lower abdomen, leg, and back.

CTA confirmed that the alleged offender involved was an employee. "We can confirm that the individual involved in [Saturday's] shooting at the 95th/ Dan Ryan terminal was a CTA employee, working as a customer assistant," CTA said in a statement on Saturday afternoon. "Based on our own investigation, we can also confirm that this employee was in violation of several CTA workforce rules, including one that expressly prohibits the possession of a firearm."

CTA is pursuing the termination of the employee while charges are pending.

The altercation is just one of the shootings reported during another violent weekend in Chicago. Sixteen people were shot, four fatally, in shootings across the city. ABC 7 reported that a man had been charged with murder after two people, both 51-year-old men, were found dead inside a home in the Gresham neighborhood, and an 18-year-old woman was held against her will.

A 38-year-old woman has sustained gunshot wounds to her legs after standing outside in the Humboldt Park neighborhood. She was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

No one is in custody. Area Four Detectives are investigating.
