An unknown man was shot to death inside a Gold Coast hotel Sunday morning, police said.

According to WGN, officials said the victim was discovered unresponsive at approximately 5 a.m. at Sonesta E-S Suites in the 200 block of East Walton. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Guests and visitors nearby initially thought the sounds were fireworks, shocked to hear about the shooting. However, one resident in the area says the Sonesta E-S Suites have been a problem for years. "Sadly, I'm not terribly surprised because this hotel has been a problem for several years now," Charles Stanford told WGN.

The hotel released a statement saying:

We are aware of the unfortunate incident that took place at the hotel. This was an isolated incident and there is no danger to guests or our team. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they investigate the matter. We are not in a position to comment further at this time and would ask that you refer our questions to local authorities.

No further information has been given, and Area Three Detectives are investigating.

On Saturday, two sisters were shot, one killed after an argument with an unknown male offender in River North.

According to ABC 7, Tashawnna Anderson, 26, and LaShawn Anderson, 31, were at a bowling alley in River North when Tashawnna spotted her friend's boyfriend with another woman, their family said.

LaShawn said she saw the male offender get out of the passenger side of a vehicle and punch her cousin. He then shot her and her 26-year-old sister. Tashawnna suffered gunshot wounds and died, while LaShawn was struck in the leg and could barely walk. No one is in custody.
