BOE OKs Sirchio’s vacation/sick day reimbursement
WALL TOWNSHIP — Township education officials approved vacation and sick day reimbursement of nearly $100,000 stemming from a separation agreement for former Wall High School Principal Rose Sirchio. The reimbursement, part of the Tuesday, July 16 meeting’s human resources report in the consent agenda, was passed without comment. Some other payouts to staff members included in the report are for sums of $200, $1,770, $4,980 and $10,230.
Summer meal program launched at school
BELMAR — Belmar Elementary School (BES) has announced the launch of a new summer food program to ensure local children have access to nutritious meals while school is out of session. According to BES Superintendent Jimmy Alvarez, the program is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. “Mike Bardsley, our business administrator, along with Bill Chalmers and the Culinary Classic team, were integral in making this possible,” he said.
BOE revises 2024-2025 school budget
BELMAR — The Belmar Board of Education (BOE) unanimously voted to adopt a revised 2024-2025 school budget that allows for an additionally increased tax levy of 1%, to 4.31%, at its July 16 meeting. Business Administrator Michael Bardsley explained to the board that the adjustment in the budget is made possible through a newly signed state Senate bill that allows for school districts that experienced a reduction in state school aid for the upcoming school year compared to the 2020-2021 school year to implement a one-time additional adjustment to its tax levy.
Toms River East has a new head wrestling coach; Warren Reid to be an assistant coach
One of the legendary head coaching careers in the history of Shore Conference sports appears to have come to an end. Venerable Warren Reid, the only head wrestling coach Toms River High School East has had in its 44-season history, will not be the Raiders’ head coach this season. Reid will stay with the program as an assistant coach, Toms River Regional Schools District Athletic Director Ted Gillen said.
