Inset: Kenneth Mortimer (Green Township Police Department). Background: Police respond to the scene where they say Mortimer stabbed his mother and father (WCPO).

A man stabbed both his parents at the couple’s Ohio home after his mother told him he could not stay the night and she asked his father to call for psychiatric help, according to police.

The defendant, Kenneth Mortimer, 40, had allegedly dragged his fleeing mom, Barbara Mortimer, 75, back inside to kill her.

Online records show he currently sits in the Hamilton County jail for murder, attempted murder, and felonious assault.

His father, a 75-year-old man, survived, but had to go to UC Hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The Green Township Police Department said that officers, as well as paramedics, were dispatched to the 3300 block of Palmhill Lane in the Cincinnati-area city of Green Township just before 4 p.m. on Friday regarding a report of a stabbing.

“Upon arrival, officers located two victims suffering from stab wounds,” cops said. “The suspect fled the scene prior to officer’s arrival.”

Officers determined that defendant Mortimer stabbed his parents during an argument.

The fight was over Barbara Mortimer telling her adult son that he could not stay the night at the family home, according to documents obtained by Fox Cincinnati affiliate WXIX. Police say she told Mortimer’s father to call for psychiatric help. This allegedly escalated with defendant Mortimer grabbing a kitchen knife and attacking his parents, stabbing them as they were sitting on the couch.

Barbara Mortimer managed to run out the front door, but defendant Mortimer dragged her back inside, and stabbed her multiple times, officers reportedly said.

The defendant allegedly fled the scene, but officers managed to find him in Cincinnati. Police claim he admitted to stabbing his parents.

Kenneth Mortimer is scheduled for a court hearing to take place Aug. 20.
