CONEY ISLAND — FOR THE FIRST time since 2015, a new champion claimed the crown at Nathan’s Fourth of July hot dog eating contest, reports the Associated Press. Patrick Bertoletti of Chicago, a competitive eater with two decades of experience, downed 58 dogs in ten minutes in a tight race. Bertoletti did not participate in the contest last year but was considered a favorite, having placed third in 2010. In the women’s division, longtime champion Miki Sudo won for the 10th time with 51 dogs, beating out second-place competitor and last year’s runner-up Mayoi Ebihara with 37 dogs and her fiance, Nicholas Wehry, who managed 46 dogs in the men’s contest.
East Meadow grads move onward and upward
East Meadow High School’s seniors enjoyed a balmy afternoon as they celebrated their graduation at the high school’s football field on June 21. The Class of 2024 processed onto the field to roaring applause from their families and friends. They were joined by the board of education, central and district administration, and East Meadow High School administration, faculty and staff.
