The former head of the National Rifle Association has told a New York judge that the appointment of an independent monitor to oversee the gun rights group’s finances would be damaging. The comments came Monday during closing arguments in the second phase of a civil case that New York Attorney General Letitia James brought against the NRA. (AP Video by John Minchillo) NEW YORK (AP) — A New York judge on Monday banned Wayne LaPierre, the former head of the National Rifle Association, from holding a paid position with the organization for a decade, but declined to appoint an independent monitor to oversee the gun rights group. The split decision from Judge Joel Cohen came on the final day of arguments in the second stage of a civil trial brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James. The first phase of the trial, decided in February by a Manhattan jury, found LaPierre and another deputy liable for misspending millions of dollars on lavish trips and other personal expenses.

Northwell 1st to use AR in spine tumor surgery, adds tech to 4 hospitals
Daniel Sciubba, MD, of Northwell Health was the first surgeon in New York to use augmented reality-guided technology in a spinal tumor surgery. Three Men Busted with Illegal Firearm, Brass Knuckles, Crack Cocaine During Roosevelt Traffic Stop, Cops Say
The First Squad reports the arrest of three individuals for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance that occurred on Sunday, July 28, 2024 at 1:55 a.m. in Roosevelt. According to Detectives, Officers initiated a lawful Vehicle Traffic stop in the vicinity of Nassau Road and E. Greenwich Avenue for a grey Dodge Durango that was speeding. Subsequent to a further investigation, an illegal loaded firearm, metal knuckles, and a white powdery substance believed to be crack cocaine were recovered. All three occupants of the vehicle were arrested without incident, defendants: Edward Tyler Johnson, 30, of 10 Sutton Place in Deer Park, Paul Scott, 34, of 13 Waterford Drive in Wyandanch, and Andre Yates, 36, of 16 Park Center Drive in Deer Park.
