The up and coming Blugolds’ basketball stars of tomorrow took on this year’s UWEC men’s team, but it was all in fun, and a fitting way to end Catholic Schools Week.

“The Blugolds have been coming to Immaculate Conception Elementary School for this fun game against the fifth grade students for more than 15 years at this point. We don’t have an exact number, but that’s as close as we can guess,” Meghan Kulig, communications director for Regis Catholic Schools Central Office.

The contest ended up with the future Blugolds defeating the current members of the UWEC squad 97-91 on the roundball court.

“The game has been a Catholic Schools Week tradition at Immaculate Conception Elementary School for several years. It gives our students something to look forward to as we celebrate Catholic education and also is a unique outreach opportunity for the Blugolds’ basketball team,” Kulig went on to explain.

Kulig summed at the day’s events by noting that a fun time was had by all who participated in the annual event.

The students always have so much fun at this event; both those who are playing in the game and those who are spectating. The Blugolds really got into it this year and were interacting with the students on the bleachers during the game. Overall, it is just a feel-good event and a fun way to celebrate Catholic Schools Week,” Kulig said.

Regis Catholic Schools celebrated Catholic Schools Week 2024 all week long last week with several special events that took place at their schools.

One such event of note during the week was that students and staff brought in either an item or monetary donation to support Bob’s House for Dogs and the Eau Claire County Humane Association. Bob’s House for Dogs stopped by Regis High School on Tuesday to give students and staff a chance to stop by and say hi to the pups.
