You Gotta Have Cheer
Former Yorkshire Academy art teacher Lois Morton (pictured) recently published You Gotta Have Cheer, a book of funny poems, games, stories, and cheers. After teaching for more than 30 years, Lois decided to compile the best of her artwork with games and activities she used to motivate students during her time in the classroom with young children. The result is a book of entertaining ways to engage your own children and family. A talented artist, Lois has won art-show gallery awards and was named outstanding merit artist at the Rockport Center for the Arts. Her new book is available on Amazon.
Dr. Bedi: physician, writer, artist
Physician and scientist Deepak Bedi, MD (pictured), leaned into his creative side and published Brilliant Thoughts: Art and Poetry, an unusual book that blends poems with original art and photography. Dr. Bedi was born and educated in Kenya and draws inspiration for his writing and original artwork from his experiences across many cultures. A practicing physician for 45 years, clinical professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and longtime Bellaire resident, Dr. Bedi is an accomplished teacher and researcher in the early diagnosis of cancer. More than 150 supporters recently joined Dr. Bedi for a book-signing event with a Q&A session and a poetry reading by professional stage actress Michelle Britton of Lionwoman Productions. The book is now available for purchase on Amazon.

American Heart Association celebrates 100 years
Amber Baker, Jim Postl, and Roz Pactor (pictured, from left) celebrated the 100th birthday of the American Heart Association (AHA). Supporters gathered at the offices of the Houston branch of the AHA to recognize the centennial with live music, refreshments and hors d’oeuvres from Tony’s, and a celebratory cake. AHA board member Pam Wells addressed the crowd and recognized Postl for his contributions to the organization, including his leadership with the Second Century Campaign and helping raise more than $500 million to fight heart disease and stroke.
