LEESBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — Loudoun United FC has been one of the hottest teams in the United Soccer League in recent weeks. They have lost just one match in their last ten, and along the way the team has received some individual recognition.
Tuesday, forward Kalil Elmedkhar was awards the USL Championship player of the week honor after his two-goal performance coming off the bench Saturday versus Miami FC. Elmedkhar would help Loudoun take down Miami 4-1. “Happy to get two goals”, Elmedkhar said. “But even happier to get the three points against an Eastern Conference opponent. So, I’m happy with the individual award, but more happy with the three points this past weekend”.
Kalil joins teammate Robby Dambrot as members of this week’s USL team of the week. “We always say the team is the best vehicle for individual success and vice versa”, head coach Ryan Martin said. “So, I am very proud of Kalil. He was a key player for us last year. Did really well at the start of the season. Suffered an injury and has taken a while to come back. To score two goals and create a couple of others was a tremendous statement, and we expect big things from him down the stretch.”
Loudoun United with get back on the pitch this weekend as they head out to the west coast to take on Oakland Roots SC Saturday at 10pm.
