Democratic City Council Member Eric Dinowitz (C.D. 11) announced on June 20 that he successfully championed the upcoming co-naming of the intersection of East 204th Street and Bainbridge Avenue in Norwood as “Sandra Pabon Way” in honor of the late Sandra Pabon who had previously served as the chaplain of the 49th Precinct Clergy Council, as well as Democratic district leader and Democratic state committee woman for Assembly District 80. 116th Precinct set to open in October
After years of advocacy and delays, the 116th Precinct is scheduled to open in early- to mid-October in Rosedale, according to the Mayor’s Office. The announcement was made last Friday after a handshake agreement between the mayor and City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams (D-Jamaica) on a $112.4 billion budget, according to his office. About $1.2 million in funds will be allocated toward 32 civilian positions to staff the precinct.

Report finds differing rules, inconsistent packaging hamper recycling on Long Island
Recycling plastic waste on Long Island can be confusing for consumers, but it's not their fault, according to a report by the Citizens Campaign for the Environment. The Long Island-based environmental group surveyed 25 municipalities across Nassau and Suffolk counties and found different rules depending on location. For example, in the towns of Babylon and Southampton, plastics marked with a "6" inside the triangular arrow symbol, often found on items like Styrofoam or disposable party cups and cutlery, are not recyclable. But in the Village of Patchogue and the Town of Oyster Bay, those same items are accepted.
