One Person Hurt in Dirt Bike Accident in Atlantic
(Atlantic) One person suffered injuries in a pit bike (dirt bike) accident at the Schildberg Campgrounds in Atlantic. The Atlantic Police Department says the accident happened at 6:36 p.m. on Saturday at North Chestnut Street and Iowa Avenue in the grass along the sidewalk of the campgrounds. Hazel Clark, of Calhoun, Louisiana, sustained a head injury in the crash. According to the report, the dirt bike tire caught the concrete, ejecting Clark from the vehicle. Cass EMS transported Clark to the Cass County Memorial Hospital for treatment of her injuries.

Atlantic fire called to gas line struck during digging project
(Atlantic, Iowa) – The Atlantic Fire Department was dispatched to 7th and Birch Streets at around 9:32-a.m. today (Monday), following a reported gas line that was struck while a company was digging in the area. Authorities were beginning an evacuation of some houses south of 7th Street. Alliant Energy responded to the scene as well. Authorities reported the line was “hissing” pretty good, at around 9:42-a.m.
Former Adair Police Chief And BW Outfitters Owner, Brad Wendt, Sentenced To 60 Months In Prison
Former Adair police chief and BW Outfitters owner, Bradley Eugene Wendt, has been ordered to serve five years in federal prison following a sentencing hearing this (Monday) morning in the U.S District Court for the Southern District of Iowa. Wendt was found guilty of 11 of 13 felony charges for abusing his position in law enforcement to obtain machine guns for himself and his gun stores in Denison and Anita. Included among those machine guns, was a M134 mini gun allegedly to be used for “crime suppression.” Wendt sold some of the machine guns in question later for personal profit. One of these federal prosecutors during the hearing said “It has been two decades of ground hogs days with Brad Wendt,” referencing Wendt’s repeated instances of unprofessional conduct as a law enforcement officer. Included in the sentence, is a $50,000 criminal penalty and a prohibition of firearm ownership. Wendt was remanded into the custody of the U.S Marshals Service to begin serving his sentence immediately. Following the completion of his term, Wendt will be required to complete three years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
