Teachers can leave a positive impact on their students that lasts a lifetime. That is something Ricky Latimore Jr. knows after a chance encounter with a teacher that changed his life 24 years ago. Latimore will begin his first year working at an elementary school when Newton County Schools begin on Monday. Last week, he attended a workshop for new teachers. When the instructor entered the room, Latimore had an immediate flashback to his own elementary school days.

Athens-Clarke County Library hosted a LEGO Robots Workshop on Tuesday, July 24, 2024. The event is an event that is hosted semi-monthly throughout the summer months, and includes building and coding a robot. The various challenges included programming the robot to move, change lights and make sounds. Participants who sign up for the event also learn about where robots are used in the real world.
UGA Alumni affinity groups add new slate of leaders
University of Georgia Alumni added 29 new members to its affinity group leadership councils. These alumni affinity groups — UGA Black Alumni, Latino Alumni, Women of UGA, and Young Alumni — work to build welcoming communities and help some of the university’s most dynamic alumni populations connect deeply to their alma mater. Affinity leadership council members are key to these efforts.
