Kids slept outside in ‘inhumane’ conditions for days, Kentucky cops say. Mom arrested

When two kids didn’t show up for school one day, school administrators went to their home to check on them.

They found the kids living outside in “inhumane living conditions” without a parent in sight, according to Kentucky police.

The children “appeared dirty, hungry and had visible injuries,” Louisville police said.

A third child came home from school, according to court documents, and the children were taken to the hospital.

Their 34-year-old mom was charged with wanton endangerment, abandonment of a minor and endangering the welfare of a minor on Aug. 29, according to court documents.

McClatchy News is not naming the mother to protect the identity of the children. Attorney information for the mother was not listed.

The children told detectives they slept outside in chairs, a swing and a tent, noting that their mom knew of their living conditions, according to the complaint.

The kids had to sleep outside because “the home was unlivable and filled with items,” according to court documents.

They had not been inside the home in months, police said.

The mother would leave the victims for “unknown periods of time,” police said, and the kids could not shower at home.

They had no access to food or water unless their mom brought it to them, according to police.

The mom was arraigned Aug. 30, according to court records. Her bond was set at $20,000.
