Kentucky has hired former Wright State associate head coach Chase Slone as one of Nick Mingione’s assistant coaches next season.

Slone, who previously served as the Raiders’ hitting coach, will be tasked with helping Kentucky’s offense remain at the top of college baseball. Wright State hit 112 home runs under his guide in 2024 to go with 473 RBIs and 505 runs scored.

Wright State ranked 11th in Division I in combined home runs and stolen bases over the past three seasons. His team also ranked 17th nationally in doubles, 21st in runs scored, 23rd in stolen bases and 24th in triples.

“Chase is a perfect fit for Kentucky Baseball,” Mingione said, via release . “He’s extremely intelligent, innovative and has played a pivotal role in one of the nation’s most effective and opportunistic offensive attacks. We are thrilled to welcome him to the UK baseball family and the Big Blue Nation.”

This past season, Slone was able to lead the Raiders to a 10th-ranked scoring offense that averaged nine runs per game. Ranking No. 8 in slugging percentage and home runs per game — Wright State was also in the top 20 nationally in batting average (16) and total runs (17) en route to a Horizon League Championship victory.

In four total seasons coaching for Wright State, the Raiders have won four Horizon League regular season titles, three Horizon League Tournament championships. They’ve also been to the NCAA Regionals three times during that span.

Overall, Slone coached his alma mater for 223 games. During that time Wright State’s offense logged an even .300 batting average to go with 349 home runs and 357 stolen bases. They also averaged a whopping 8.5 runs per game.

Wright State has set hoardes of new program records over the past four seasons, and even sent six players to the MLB Draft. This includes Tyler Black, who made his debut for the Milwaukee Brewers in 2024.

For Kentucky, the Wildcats ultimately finish 46-16 this season, logging the most wins in UK baseball program history and included a 22-8 conference record and the first-ever SEC regular season championship in program history.

Kentucky was already headed into the offseason with heaps of momentum. And now with Chase Slone on the Wildcats’ staff, it’s up to them to keep that success riding into 2025 and beyond under head coach Nick Mingione.
