    Woman faces multiple animal cruelty charges after dogs found malnourished in Lexington

    LEXINGTON, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman faces multiple animal cruelty charges after five dogs were found malnourished on Sunday, according to the City of Lexington.

    Around 11:47 a.m., five dogs were found malnourished and without food, water or shelter on Olympia Street.

    The five dogs were taken in.

    On Tuesday, Tammy Wilt was charged with five counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty and one city ordinance violation of having more than three dogs on the property.

    Wilt was given a $2,000 unsecured bond.

    Additional warrants were obtained on Stephanie Mitchem for five counts of animal abandonment.

    The investigation is ongoing.
