Astronaut Dr. Linda Godwin Gives Presentation to Local Girl Scouts
EDWARDSVILLE - Local Girl Scouts recently enjoyed a presentation from an astronaut. On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the Girl Scouts of Southern Illinois hosted “Women in Space: A Trailblazing Astronaut’s Insight featuring Guest Speaker Linda Godwin.” Godwin spoke about her 30-year career with NASA and her four trips into space. Roughly 40 local Girl Scouts were present and over 70 Girl Scouts from across the country watched the presentation via Zoom.

EDWARDSVILLE - Former Edwardsville baseball players, Jack Cooper, Drake Westcott, Hayden Moore, and Blake Burris are under consideration by Major League Baseball teams for selection in next week’s MLB Draft, which started Sunday, and continues through Tuesday. The first round is set to be televised on ESPN, while the entire draft will be televised on MLB Network, from Cowtown Coliseum in Ft. Worth, Tex., and is in collaboration with the MLB All-Star Game, to be played Tuesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Tex., the home of the world champion Texas Rangers.
$21 million in construction projects coming to Edwardsville
Edwardsville, IL – Over $21 million in construction projects are coming to Edwardsville thanks to a federal grant announced by union-backed leaders in late June. U.S. Rep. Nikki Budzinski and U.S. Sens. Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth announced that Edwardsville will receive a $21.2 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the Goshen Road and Liberty Trail multi-modal transportation improvement project.

Possible property tax relief for Missouri senior citizens has been broadened. State Sen. Tony Luetkemeyer of Parkville succeeded last year in passing Senate Bill 190 giving counties the option to freeze the property tax assessments of senior citizens. Luetkemeyer updated it this year and it has been signed into law.
