HOBOKEN, NJ -- The Livingston Little League 12U all-star baseball team defeated Hoboken, 3-2, on Thursday to win the New Jersey Section 2 championship at Sgt. William Feskin Memorial Field in Hoboken. Blake Simon pitched a complete game for the victory and also hit a home run. Cameron Roig of Livingston also hit a home run. The Nor-Gwyn 9-and-under Gritty Hawks made it through the 2024 Cal Ripken Baseball Middle Atlantic Region Tournament last week in three of four successful bouts. The only team to hand them a loss in their tournament run was Cranford. NUTLEY, NJ - Another great week of Soccer Camp returns to Nutley's Owens Field next week with Nutley High School Soccer Coach Mike DiPiano. For the past 14 years, DiPiano's coed soccer camp has become a township staple, with many participants eventually going on to play soccer in high school and college. Many later worked at the camp when they were in high school. The program is coed, for young people in grades 1 to grade 8. The cost is $150 for the week, which is lower than many of the soccer camps in the region. Camp dates are July 29 to August 1. Montclair, NJ – The Montclair State University cross country team unveiled their seven-meet schedule for the 2024 season on Monday morning. The campaign begins on August 30, as Montclair travels to South Jersey for the Stockton Season Opener. The Red Hawks will return to Stockton two weeks later for the Osprey Open on September 14, and kick off the second month of the slate with the Lehigh Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, PA on October 5. CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Registration for Cedar Grove Fall Cross Country is now open, according to the Cedar Grove Department of Recreation. Limited spots are available for the Fall Cross Country Clinic, which is open to students in grades 1 through 3. Football To Hold 7 On 7 Contest Wednesday
The Verona High School football team will hold its first 7 on 7 tournament on Wednesday, July 24, beginning at 4 p.m. There are four pools set for the contest and 16 high schools will be competing, from Don Bosco Prep to Elizabeth, Mahwah, Montclair Kimberley Academy and more, as well as VHS. Seven on seven is a non-contact version of football that emphasizes passing and receiving skills. Verona participated in a similar tournament organized by Nike at the Jets training facility earlier this summer.
