Livingston Police Announce Arrests in July Incidents of Shoplifting, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and More

LIVINGSTON, NJ — Two 28-year-old males were arrested earlier this week in separate shoplifting incidents at Nordstrom Rack, located at 530 W Mt. Pleasant Avenue in Livingston, according to Livingston police.
At approximately 3 p.m. on July 12, Livingston officers responded to the department store, where Ibnrashad Muhammad, 28, of Maplewood, was being detained by store loss prevention for shoplifting approximately $200 worth of merchandise. Muhammad was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. He was charged with shoplifting and released on a summons with a returnable court date at the Livingston Municipal Court.
Shortly after 1 p.m. on July 14, officers arrested Joseph Martinez, 28, of New York, NY, at the same location. According to police, the officers responded to Nordstrom Rack to find Martinez being detained by store loss prevention for shoplifting approximately $500 worth of merchandise from the store.
Martinez was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters for processing. He was charged with shoplifting and possession of an anti-shoplifting device. Martinez was released on a summons with a returnable court date at the Essex County Courthouse.
In other news, Livingston police also arrested a 67-year-old man from Staten Island, NY earlier this week.
At approximately 11:15 a.m. on July 15, Livingston police were alerted to a stolen motor vehicle as it entered the jurisdiction. The vehicle, described as a blue Subaru Impreza with a New York registration, was swiftly located on E. Mt. Pleasant Avenue near the intersection of Shrewsbury Drive, where officers conducted a motor vehicle stop.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Walter Szwed, was arrested and transported to headquarters for processing. Szwed was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle on a warrant and was lodged in the Essex County Jail, according to police.
