Two cats were rescued after a fire in Clinton Monday afternoon.

The Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to a structure fire in the 100 block of N. Fifth Street on Monday, July 29 at about 4:12 p.m. All units responded from their stations and Camanche dispatched its Rapid Intervention Team (RIT). Clinton’s response included a ladder truck, engine, command vehicle and three ambulances.

Neighbors on the scene told first responders that the residents had left for work, but they had cats. Crews forced entry into the rear of the residence and made an aggressive interior attack, extinguishing the fire within minutes. They searched the building, and two cats were rescued. The Salvation Army Emergency Assistance Program is assisting the residents with temporary placement and food.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No injuries were reported.
