Still Standing But Plenty Of Work To Clean Up Following Severe Weather Sunday Morning
Sunday’s severe weather event torn a roof off of JJC and flew along Cass Street damaging the exterior of Illinois Rock and Roll Museum on Route 66. Twisted metal that sat on top of the HVAC system at JJC on Chicago Street made its way to Cass Street, blocking roads. The severe weather blew through just before 9am Sunday, July 14th and caused power outages and trees limbs to be scattered around the city. The National Weather Service confirms it was a microburst on Sunday morning.
First Bird, Additional WNV Mosquito Cases Detected in Will County
The Will County Health Department’s Environmental Health division announced additional batches of mosquitoes and a dead bird have tested positive for West Nile Virus [WNV]. Mosquitoes that tested positive for WNV have been found in Joliet, Homer Glen, Shorewood, and Lockport. A dead bird that tested positive for WNV was found in Crest Hill. Will County residents are reminded to protect themselves from mosquito bites and mosquito-borne diseases. No human cases of West Nile virus have been reported so far this year.

Parts of northern Illinois shook Monday as a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck in the early morning hours. The earthquake was centered northwest of the DeKalb County village of Somonauk. According to the United States Geological Survey, the trembler had an estimated depth of about 6 miles. The earthquake could be felt as far as Joliet.
Earthquake Rattles Far Western Suburbs Early This Morning
In the early hours of Monday morning, at approximately 2:53 a.m., a minor earthquake struck about 2 kilometers northwest of Somonauk, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS). While there were no reports of damage, the tremor was felt in parts of the western Chicago suburbs, including Yorkville and Oswego.
Demolition Has Begun At OLA But You Wouldn’t Know It By Looking At The Front Of The Building
The demolition of Our Lady of Angels in Joliet has begun. As first reported by WJOL in October of 2022 the retirement home was on life support and would be closing soon. The last residents left the building at the end of January in 2023 with a final mass held on February 11, 2023. Since then the Sisters of St. Francis nuns have held estate sales to sell furniture, pianos, office supplies and more to the public. While you can’t see the demolition from the front of the building, there is fencing surrounding the building. Gould Brothers Construction from Joliet is handling the demolition which has begun in the rear of the sprawling building at 1201 Wyoming Avenue on Joliet’s west side.

$1.15B Great Lakes dam project enters construction phase
The states of Michigan and Illinois signed an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to cosponsor construction of the $1.15 billion Brandon Road Interbasin Project, which will prevent invasive carp and other aquatic nuisance species from entering the Great Lakes, per a July 1 news release from Michigan Gov.
