Central Illinois Weather Update: Scattered Storms and Cooler Temperatures Ahead
Lincoln, IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected across central Illinois today, primarily south of a Taylorville to Danville line. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Lincoln issued an alert for scattered storms, which could bring damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall. Cooler and drier air is forecasted to follow, offering relief for the latter half of the week.
4-H events are coming to Illinois in a big way
EASTERN ILLINOIS (WTWO,WAWV)– Over the rest of the month of July Eastern Illinois will play host to a numerous amount of 4-H showcases. Clark, Edgar, and Crawford counties all are having 4-H fairs over the coming weeks allowing all their members a chance to show their hard work on the projects they’ve been spending time on. 4-H members have been working on their projects in several fields from dealing with livestock of all shapes and sizes to clothing and textiles, and more. $1.15B Great Lakes dam project enters construction phase
The states of Michigan and Illinois signed an agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to cosponsor construction of the $1.15 billion Brandon Road Interbasin Project, which will prevent invasive carp and other aquatic nuisance species from entering the Great Lakes, per a July 1 news release from Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office.

LCM (50m) Results on MeetMobile (“2024 CZ North Section Summer Sectionals”) The final day of the 2024 Summer Sectionals meet in Westmont, IL so more great racing. The men’s 1500 free went to Aquajets Swim Team 17-year-old Jiarui Xue, who finished in 15:57.10. Xue, a Princeton recruit, has been quite a bit faster, holding a personal best of 15:38.14, which he swam at the NCSA Championships in March. Ozaukee Aquatics 14-year-old Grant Freeze had a fantastic swim for 4th in the mile, clocking a 16:13.24, which marks a new personal best by nearly 24 seconds.
Storm-Induced Fire Results in $150,000 Damage to Naperville Home
Naperville, IL – A late-night fire caused significant damage to a home in the 2000 block of Schumacher Lane in Naperville. The incident occurred at 11:29 p.m. on Sunday. According to the Naperville Emergency Communications Center, the fire prompted a general alarm response, with multiple fire units dispatched to the scene. Firefighters arrived to find smoke and flames visible from the roof. The occupants safely evacuated before the fire department’s arrival. The fire, caused by a storm, resulted in $150,000 in damages and rendered the home uninhabitable. There were no reported injuries.
