A 39-year-old motorcyclist from Lodi was killed in a collision with a big-rig in San Joaquin County on Monday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The CHP said the motorcyclist was riding his 2006 Suzuki south on Escalon Bellota Road north of Milton Road at a higher speed than the posted 55 mph.

At the same time, a 54-year-old man from Turlock who was driving a 2020 Freightliner with a trailer was approaching the same location as the motorcyclist but in different directions.

The Turlock man was proceeding to make a left turn when the motorcyclist crossed the northbound lane of Escalon Bellota Road.

The CHP said due to the speed of the motorcycle rider, he was unable to slow down in time to avoid the truck, which caused both of the drivers to collide.

The man riding the motorcycle crashed into the rearmost axle of the Turlock man's trailer.

The motorcyclist died at the scene from his injuries and his name has not been released.

    The big-rig driver was uninjured.

The CHP said investigators do not know if drugs or alcohol were contributing factors to the collision.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the CHP's Stockton office at (209) 938-4800.
