MCSO links Connected Lakes fire to discarded smoking materials
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – A multi-acre wildfire in Connected Lakes State Park was caused by discarded smoking materials, the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office determined. The fire occurred around 6:30 p.m., Sunday, after multiple park attendees reported a 20-by-20-foot fire at the western end of the park. The blaze grew around 6 to 10 acres due to strong wind gusts before it was contained, the Grand Junction Fire Department reported. One person was evaluated for smoke inhalation but wasn’t transported.
