1 hurt after Baton Rouge shooting Saturday, officials say
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — One person was taken to a local hospital after a shooting in Baton Rouge on Saturday, July 20, according to emergency medical officials. Emergency medical services said one person was transported to the hospital after a shooting on Prescott Road Saturday. EMS said the person is in stable condition.
Man guilty of carjacking elderly woman at gunpoint sentenced
A judge sentenced a New Orleans man this week to more than 12 years in federal prison after a jury convicted him of carjacking an 80-year-old woman at gunpoint in 2022. Shampain Poole, 23, will serve a 147-month sentence and five years of supervised release for his April conviction, in which a federal jury found him guilty of carjacking, brandishing a weapon during a crime of violence and being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to the U.S. District Attorney's Office.
