The Los Angeles Police Department asked for and received permission to accept the donation of a $278,000 robot dog , built by Boston Dynamics, just over a year ago.

The department was granted permission on the condition that it reported back to the L.A. City Council regularly on how the dog is being deployed.

In the past year, the dog has been deployed four times. According to the latest report, it was used last in late January in Van Nuys.

KNX News’ Craig Fiegener reported it was deployed to search a two-story home after a report of a burglary in progress. The not-so-furry friend didn’t find any suspects, but did locate a shotgun that’s now part of the investigation.

In another incident, the dog was sent into a bus to remove a gun from a man who was asleep. On Monday, there was a man believed to be armed who was taken into custody after a standoff on a Metro bus in Glendale.
