Los Angeles Sparks rookie Cameron Brink is learning firsthand just how challenging the WNBA can be. In her first season, Brink has faced numerous trials, including having her season cut short due to a torn ACL, but the young forward is embracing every moment as a valuable learning experience.

“I think, especially this year, I’m learning how hard it is to win. It is extremely hard. So every single game is going to be a battle,” Brink said in a cover interview with Flaunt’s Matthew Bedard.

Brink, who was a standout at Stanford University, noted the dedication and attitude of the league's veterans as particularly inspiring.

“What I’m learning from the vets is that they show up every day with an amazing attitude and the willingness to help the rookies. It’s honestly inspirational for me just playing with these women who show up every day even when the days are hard,” she said.

The daily grind of early morning practices, drills and the physical toll of the sport is balanced by the rewarding moments of teamwork and success. Brink respects her teammates, recognizing the sacrifices they make.

“A lot of them are mothers. They have kids. This is how they support their families, so this is really important stuff, and I really just respect not just my teammates and my veterans, but the women and people across the league that really pour their everything into it,” Brink said.

Women’s professional basketball has often been overshadowed by its male counterpart, the NBA. While strides have been made in terms of recognition and support, the WNBA still faces challenges reflective of broader societal inequities. As Brink continues to navigate her first season, she does so with an appreciation for the trail blazers who came before her and the progress that continues to be made.

“It’s honestly inspirational for me just playing with these women who show up every day even when the days are hard,” Brink said.

Brink's own WNBA journey has been marked by personal milestones and setbacks. Drafted as the No. 2 overall pick by the Sparks and selected for Team USA’s 3x3 team at the Paris Olympics, her rookie year seemed destined for greatness. However, a torn ACL injury in late June has temporarily sidelined her aspirations.

According to stats from ESPN , before her injury, Brink was averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds across 15 games.
