Former USC Trojans Coach Goes Scorched Earth On Paul Finebaum

Many USC Trojans fans will remember the infamous “firing on the tarmac” that happened just a little over a decade ago. This, of course, is in reference to now current Ole Miss head coach, Lane Kiffin.

If you take the way-back machine, Kiffin jump-started his coaching career with USC on Pete Carroll’s staff. He was the tight end coach in 2001, the wide receivers coach from 2002-2003, the passing game coordinator and WR coach in 2004, and the offensive coordinator from 2005-2006. After short head coaching stints with Tennessee and the Oakland Raiders of the NFL , Kiffin returned to SC as the Head Coach in 2010.

During his third season, on September 29, 2013, after a 62-41 drubbing at the hands of Arizona State, former USC Athletic Director Pat Haden decided to make a move, promptly. At 3:14 am , just after the team plane arrived back in Los Angeles, Kiffin was fired on the tarmac.

Now 10+ years later, Kiffin was on with Paul Finebaum at SEC media days, and he decided to go IN on Finebaum.

“You were on college game day, you had to make your big splash and they were watching it. ‘Cause I know the other person in the room that was watching it with them. And you said, what a joke I was. And I’m the Miley Cyrus in college football coaching and I should be fired. And they looked at each other and later that night I was fired.”

Kiffin is referencing his AD being the one who was watching and ultimately making the decision to fire him just hours later.

But then comes the doozy.

“Look at Miley Cyrus. She’s having a nice comeback here. So you were wrong on that. I mean, you putting me down with that. So really, I don’t really know what you’re good at. Like, you predicted that Coach Saban was done. That didn’t happen. You basically said Miley Cyrus stinks. And she’s still going. Yeah. Well anyway.”

Good to see that Coach Kiffin kept receipts.
