Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid wasn't afraid to share his opinion regarding his former teammate J.J. Redick's new coaching career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Embiid, who played with Redick on the Sixers for two seasons, touched on Redick's new career path with the Lakers, expressing a bit of skepticism.

“If I was him, I don’t know if that’s a perfect situation. Maybe he thinks that’s a perfect situation," Embiid said in an interview with The New York Times.

Embiid elaborated on the high stakes of Redick’s new role, suggesting that while Redick could strike gold if he starts winning right off the bat, he could find himself out of a job if success doesn't come quickly.

"It’s kind of a make-or-break situation, because if you succeed, great, you’re going to be coaching for years. But if you don’t succeed, those coaches are usually bound to be fired within a year or two," Embiid added.

Despite his concerns, Embiid made it clear that he was rooting for Redick.

"I love him, I’m happy for him, but that’s a tough job," he said.

Redick's hiring by the Lakers came after a dramatic offseason. Redick was frequently mentioned in the coaching search, but he wasn't always the top candidate.

According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers reportedly offered Dan Hurley, a multi-time national championship winner, $70 million to coach, but he turned it down to pursue a three-peat with UConn.

Coaching in the NBA is extremely challenging, especially with a historic franchise like the Lakers.

So it’s fair to say Embiid might have a point about Redick needing to find early success, given the high demands to win in Los Angeles.
