Top 5-Star Recruit Takes One Step Closer To USC Trojans Commitment

On Saturday, the USC Trojans football team received a commitment from an elite EDGE recruit named Xavier Griffin . On Sunday, they took one step closer to signing a recruit who’s held in even higher regard, as in a five-star+ talent.

According to On3 Sports’ national recruiting expert Hayes Fawcett, the top-ranked defensive line recruit in the 2025 class has narrowed down his choices to just three schools. The USC Trojans are one of them.

The recruit, Elijah Griffin, has NFL size, at 6-foot-5, 290 pounds. In addition to being ranked as the best defensive line recruit in the nation by On3 Sports , he’s the No. 5 overall recruit in the entire nation.

However, the Trojans aren’t out of the weeds yet. They’re still competing with the Miami Hurricanes and the Georgia Bulldogs. Being that Griffin is from Georgia, that’s some stiff competition for Lincoln Riley.

Even On3 Sports’ recruiting prediction machine expects Griffin to stay home and commit to the Bulldogs. Georgia’s given an overwhelming 95.2% chance, which drastically outweigh’s USC, who is given less than 1% of a chance to sign Griffin.

Griffin reportedly clocked a 5.1-second 40-yard dash following the 2021 season. He also showed his explosiveness with an impressive 35-inch vertical leap. As a sophomore in 2022, Griffin recorded 82 tackles (30 TFL) and 14.5 sacks, showing he’s extremely productive on top of boasting tantalizing measurables.

The Trojans may have some work to do to get Griffin to sign, but if they can, he’d be a very valuable addition to the defense.
