Texas Tech baseball pitcher Kyle Robinson was selected in the 11th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday.
Robinson, a 6-foot-6, 210-pound right hander, was ranked the 182nd prospect on MLB.com's rankings heading into the draft. He went to the A's with the first pick of the 11th round, 316th overall.
The Vienna, Virginia, native spent his first two years with the Red Raiders — primarily working out of the bullpen. He assumed the role as Tech's top starter this season, starting a team-high 15 games with a 4-7 record, an ERA of 5.09 and WHIP of 1.58. He struck out 79 batters, walked 38 and held opponents to a .272 batting average in 76 innings of work.
He set a career-high with 11 strikeouts in a May 11 tilt with Oklahoma State this season.
In his first two years, Robinson appeared in 30 games, starting five games and earning a pair of saves in 2023. For his Tech career, Robinson accumulated a 6-8 record with a 5.14 ERA in 133 innings.
Texas Tech's Austin Green also selected in MLB Draft
Austin Green had to wait until the 14th round to hear his name called as the New York Yankees used the 421st pick of the draft to take the Red Raider utility man.
Green began his collegiate career at Weatherford College and spent the last two years with Texas Tech. This past season, the 6-foot, 190-pound New Diana graduate batted .322 with eight home runs and 45 RBI. He had 12 homers and 57 RBI during the 2023 season.
