Walhalla City Council Allocates $64,000 in Fiscal Year Budget, Shifts Focus to Staff Pay and Zoning Ordinance Rewrite
The Walhalla City Council met Thursday to finalize the appropriation of $64,000 in the city’s $27 million budget for fiscal year 2024-25. Initially, the council considered hiring an accounting clerk to alleviate the financial responsibilities of the billing clerks. Options included making the position part-time, saving the money, or reclassifying the funds for other uses. After discussion, the council decided not to hire an additional accounting clerk, expressing concerns about finding qualified part-time help. Instead, they opted to reclassify the funds to provide additional pay for current staff who take on financial duties and to address the much-needed zoning ordinance rewrite by the Appalachian Council of Governments.
