7-26-24 city of fdl enters into agreement to replace aging bridge
The Fond du Lac city council has approved entering into an agreement to replace an aging bridge. City engineer Chris Johnson says under the agreement the city will pay approximately $288,000 and the state and federal government would pick up 80 percent of the $3 million cost to replace the Hickory Street bridge. Johnson says the bridge over the west branch of the Fond du lac River was built in 1965. Johnson says the bridge has a sufficiency rating of 39.2 with numerous spalls, exposed and broken strands, cracked beam, and abutment cracking. He says that has triggered a 40 ton maximum loading and staff will continue with inspections until the bridge is replaced. Construction of the new bridge is planned for 2029.

OSHKOSH, Wisconsin—Tensions flared briefly at a forum on progress toward an unleaded replacement for avgas Monday at EAA AirVenture. During the public comment period after formal presentations, Tim Roehl, president of General Aviation Modifications Inc. OSHKOSH, Wis. (WBAY) -Oshkosh is known as the mecca of sport aviation, but Wisconsin can also now be called home to one of the military’s most state of the art aircraft. The 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard in Madison received eight F-35A Lighting II aircraft in April of 2023, becoming only the second Air National Guard wing in the country to get them. The Vermont Air National Guard’s 158th Fighter Wing was the first.
7-25-24 fdl public works budget
The Fond du Lac Public Works director has unveiled a proposed budget for next year. Paul DeVries told the city council that two of the big ticket items are a bio-solids dryer and renewable natural gas at the Wastewater Treatment plant. DeVries says one of the big street projects in 2025 will be the reconstruction of South Main Street. DeVries says the project will involve the reconstruction of South Main from 6th Street to Merrill Avenue. He says the project will be done in phases starting in April and completed in July. DeVries says the Promen Drive bridge at Lakeside Park is slated for reconstruction after Walleye Weekend.
