Man, 39, dies after crashing car into truck with man, 4-year-old inside
CHELSEA, MI – A 39-year-old man from the Flint area was killed after crashing head-on into incoming traffic. Chelsea police were responding to reports of a vehicle driving erratically around 6 p.m. Saturday, June 8, when they located the Toyota Corolla driving east on Old U.S. 12, according to a release from the department. As they attempted to pull over the vehicle, it swerved into the westbound traffic, causing a head-on crash with a Dodge Ram truck.
New Jackson Homeless Center Delayed, Not Derailed, Say Project Leaders
The City of Jackson's plan to sell the T.A. Wilson Academy building to Residents in Action by the end of May for conversion to a homeless resource center has been delayed. Former Jackson Mayor Passes Away
Former Jackson Mayor Richard ‘Dick’ Dirlam has died at the age of 91. Mr. Dirlam was mayor in the early 1990’s, after two terms as city commissioner in the fifth ward. Dick was a graduate of Jackson High, Class of 1950, and Jackson Junior College. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he spent four years on tour of the world.

ANN ARBOR, MI – Artists could see their work on downtown Ann Arbor traffic boxes and receive a nearly $1,500 stipend. Creative Washtenaw, in conjunction with Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority and the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission, will choose 22 Washtenaw County-based artists for the city’s PowerArt! Works competition, according to a Creative Washtenaw press release. An online community vote then selects the 16 finalists.

JACKSON, MI – Jackson’s historic Commercial Exchange Building has been sold to a new owner who hopes to turn it into a space for apartments, entertainment and offices. The Commercial Exchange Building, 2301 E. Michigan Ave., was previously owned by Laurice LaZebnik after her husband Robert purchased it from Sparton Corp. in 1961. Robert died in July 2023, and LaZebnik continued running the property, until she decided it was time to sell the historic three-floor building.

The area ice cream social season will be kicking off with Sharon Church, corner of M-52 and Pleasant Lake Road, hosting their social on Wednesday, June 26, from 4:30pm to 7pm. They will offer outdoor and indoor seating, as well as a take-out option. The menu will have sandwich choices of hot chicken, sloppy joe, ham and cheese on a pretzel bun, and hot dogs. Several sides will be available to choose from; and, of course, there will be cake and ice cream. Serving will begin at 4:30pm. Sharon Church is located at 19980 W Pleasant Lake Rd, on the corner of Pleasant Lake Rd and M-52.

Chelsea Weekly Police Report, 6-10-24
Incident #: 24-1779 Location: 900 block of S. Main Street. INFORMATION: While on routine patrol officers made a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation, prior to the vehicle coming to a stop the officers noted that something had been tossed out of the passenger side window of the vehicle. Once the vehicle came to a stop the officers made contact and identified the driver and passenger of the vehicle. Officers went to the location a short distance down the road where the item had been tossed out of the window and located a small baggie of white crystalized powder. The Officers collected the white powder for evidence and questioned the driver and passenger of the vehicle and both subjects denied tossing anything out of the window. The passenger, a 42-year-old Ann Arbor man was placed under arrest for an unrelated warrant and was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail. The case remains open pending laboratory analysis by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab and warrant review by the Washtenaw County.
