Longtime Ballwin police officer promoted to captain
Although he is hardly a stranger to the city, Curt Saitta was re-introduced at the Aug. 12 Ballwin Board of Aldermen meeting as the new police captain. Recently, John Bergfeld – serving as acting chief of police since December 2023 – was officially moved up to the police chief role. Bergfeld has been with Ballwin police since 1997, but even the chief is outdone by Saitta’s tenure on the force.

ST. LOUIS — A man was killed Wednesday evening when he was struck by a tractor-trailer along Interstate 44. The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department said officers responded just after 7 p.m. to the crash in the area of eastbound I-44 and Broadway, near where it merges with Interstate 70.
Man, woman charged in connection with deadly restaurant shooting in south St. Louis
ST. LOUIS — A man and a woman were charged Wednesday, more than a week after a shooting at a south St. Louis restaurant left one person dead and three others injured. On Wednesday, the Circuit Attorney's Office issued charges against 33-year-old Katrina Kelly and 37-year-old Kyle Penton in connection with the deadly shooting at Sam's Southern Eatery in the 3500 block of Gravois Avenue, just north of the intersection with Grand Boulevard.
