MANNINGTON, W.Va (WBOY) — This Fourth of July in Mannington was the grand opening of its new public pool after not having one open since the pandemic.

The old pool location was 89 years old, and Park Board President Lenny Stafford realized that it would be more cost-effective to build a new one rather than renovate the old location, so the new location was funded with a million dollars of the town’s own money as well as a grant.

The pool, along with the Freeland “Bub” Miller Splash Zone, opened just in time for the Fourth of July with families coming out to celebrate Independence Day.

Mannington Mayor Laura Michael said that she was happy to see the pool in use. “A lot of people worked very, very hard, too many to name, to even just to pull it off.”

The pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m. and is rentable every evening from 6 to 8 p.m. The pool is planning to stay open until the fall and it costs $5 for kids and $6 for adults.
