Local grocer offers a summer deal to scream for

Fry’s Food will kickstart summer with one cool deal.

The Arizona grocer, with a store at 20797 N. John Wayne Pkwy., will give away 45,000 pints of its Kroger brand ice cream Thursday in honor of the summer solstice.

Why 45,000 pints? The company’s plan is to give away 50 pints for each minute of solstice sunlight, which amounts to 900 minutes, or 15 hours.

Customers can scoop up a limited-time, single-use digital coupon for one of the store brand’s 11 ice cream flavors by visiting the company’s website that day. Flavors include the decadent Brookie flavor, a chocolate ice cream mixed with bits of brownies and chocolate chip cookie pieces, as well as classics like vanilla bean and chocolate chip.

Kroger Our Brands Vice President Juan De Paoli said the discount not only recognizes the longest day of the year, but also gives families a chance to celebrate with one of their favorite creamy treats at a 100% discount.

“Summer means more time with family, more time by the pool and more time indulging in our favorite treats,” said De Paoli. “With more sunshine to enjoy a sweet treat, we are giving away ice cream for 15 hours straight; that is a whole lot of free ice cream.”
