    Campus News: The Week of May 11

    The University of Alabama’s Department of Art and Art History announced that the following were scholarship award recipients for the 2024-2025 academic year. Abigail Dunham of Marietta was a recipient of a graphic design scholarship from the Mary M. Morgan Memorial Art Scholarship Fund. Dunham is earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design with a minor in Math. Emma Mae Burtnett of Marietta was the recipient of the Carolyn Haddon “Julie” Matthews Memorial Endowed Scholarship. Burtnett is earning a Bachelor of Arts in studio art with minors in sales and Spanish.Charity Kowalewski of Acworth graduated with a Master’s degree in Education Hearing Impaired during Flagler College’s Commencement Ceremony at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre in St. Augustine, Florida on May 5.Young Harris College announced that the following students have been named to the Dean's list for the spring 2024 semester: Malia Acord and Trent Allison, both of Acworth; Corbin Pollock and Nicholas Stinson, both of Kennesaw; William Jones and Kevin Lara, both of Mableton; Cameron Bleshoy, Avery Brusa, Kyle Chatham, Eric Del Valle, Ashlyn Fraley, Donald Griffin and Madeline Kluth, all of Marietta; Olivia Canaan, Rhylie Turner and Kennedy Willis, all of Powder Springs; and Samuel Shelley of Smyrna.Young Harris College announced that the 2023-2024 academic year graduates. They are: Theresa Boydstone of Acworth; Alexis Scarpinato of Kennesaw; William Jones of Mableton; Eric Del Valle, Leanna Edwards, Ruth Mandell and Carl Perkins, all of Marietta; and Kevin Ginn and McKayla Milam, both of Powder Springs.Young Harris College announced that the following students were named to the President's list for the spring 2024 semester: Theresa Boydstone and Kennedy Couch, both of Acworth; Eros Colorado-Medrano of Mableton; Marleigh Mullins and Victoria Shanahan, both of Marietta; and Kaylin Ackerman and McKayla Milam, both of Powder Springs.Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri announced that Marie Keita of Smyrna was named to the Dean’s list for the spring 2024 semester.University of North Georgia students who showed promise, demonstrated creativity, displayed excellence, served others and exceeded all expectations had their moment in the spotlight during the annual Student Honors and Awards Day on their campuses this spring. The ceremonies were held on April 9 in Dahlonega, April 10 in Gainesville and April 11 in Oconee. Local students included: Acworth residents - Iyonka Strawn-Valcy was awarded Outstanding HELP Student and Natalie Letts was awarded Siler Scholars; Elnora Farmer of Kennesaw was a Phi Kappa Phi Inductee; Dylan Morog of Mableton was awarded Most Promising Student of Spanish; Marietta residents - Aidan Kells was a Phi Theta Kappa Inductee, Ashley Ostertag was awarded the Walter J. Carpenter Award, Cara Swartzlander was awarded the William Leger Academic Excellence in Sociology Award and was a Phi Theta Kappa Inductee, Lauren Gately was awarded the Sally Wiedmann Philosophy Award, Maria Sanchez Acosta was awarded the Ben W. Among them was Brittaney-Ann Simpson of Kennesaw, who graduated with a Doctor of Pharmacy and a Master of Business Administration (Online Only).Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, Alabama named the following students to the spring 2024 Dean’s list: Megan G.
