Child's death ruled a homicide; Marinette woman charged

MARINETTE — A 32-year-old Marinette woman faces two felony charges related to the death of 3-year-old child last summer.

Samantha J. Wishman, 2161 University Drive, is charged with first degree reckless homicide and neglecting a child — consequence is death, according to press release from Marinette Police Chief Jon LaCombe.

The child’s death was reported on June 15, 2023, as an accidental fall down a flight of stairs, according to the release. As a result of a thorough investigation conducted by the Marinette Police Department, the Marinette County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Forensic Sciences State Crime Laboratory in Madison, and the Marinette County District Attorney’s Office, the child’s death has been deemed non-accidental, the release states.
