Instructor Kat Francis will teach Do the Mu workshop participants how to make paper dolls on Aug. 3, in a free drop-in program in the Massillon Museum’s Gessner Hall. All ages and ability levels are welcome, and all supplies will be provided. Guests may attend any time between noon and 2 p.m.

    Highlights

Francis, a mixed media artist, earned a master of fine arts at Columbus College of Art and a bachelor of fine arts at Ohio State University. In her work, she honestly, yet playfully, illustrates American history and daily life. She observes and creates in a collage-like manner to illustrate reflections on modern life. Moving frequently and learning to adapt to new places, Francis has a deep appreciation for unique surroundings and storytelling.

This workshop will be held in conjunction with Gilding Northeast Ohio: Fashion and Fortune 1870–1900, on view in the Massillon Museum's Main Gallery through Oct. 13. The exhibition is organized by the Massillon Museum and guest-curated by Brian Centrone. It is funded by a Major Arts Enhancements and Exhibit Grant through ArtsinStark and Visit Canton.

Do the Mu is a free monthly hands-on intergenerational creative outlet. The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the Ohio Arts Council, ArtsinStark, and the citizens of Massillon. This workshop is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

    Why you should attend

Do the Mu participants can view the Gilding Northeast Ohio exhibition, as well as Emily Bartolone: On Its Head; Accessible Expressions Ohio; the local history, fine and decorative arts, and photography galleries; Innovators of Massillon; and Ethiopian Expedition of 1903. While the Jerry Kalback, Deadball Era Series: An Illustrator’s Process and Massillon’s Baseball Pros: An Inning in History exhibitions in the Paul Brown Museum will close the day after the August Do the Mu, the Paul Brown/Massillon Tiger Football History Timeline will remain on display.
