A Mays Landing man accused of fatally stabbing his landlord remains hospitalized a week later.

Michael Carney, 39, was found near the mortally wounded victim inside his Park Road residence last Wednesday, according to the affidavit of probable cause. A bloody knife was also nearby.

Four witnesses told investigators they saw Carney repeatedly stab Solomon Lonner, the affidavit states.

The 49-year-old Lakewood man was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus in Atlantic City, where he was pronounced dead.

Carney also was hospitalized, although no details were given as to why.

He still has not been transferred to the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Carney had two pending aggravated assault cases out of Mercer County at the time of the fatal attack. Both were alleged attacks on police within the same month in 2022, according to affidavits of probable cause obtained by BreakingAC.

An officer was at the Hamilton Marketplace in Hamilton Township, Mercer County, on Oct. 1, 2022, when Carney allegedly punched the officer in the face. The officer fell as he retreated, causing further injury, according to the affidavit in that case.

On Oct. 29 of that same year, police were called to the Walmart in Hamilton Township, Mercer County.

    Four officers responded.

Carney first punched one of the officers, causing a laceration and swelling to the officer’s mouth, the affidavit states.

As officers tried to take him into custody, Carney punched another in the back of the head, according to the affidavit. He continued to resist as he was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

Carney faces charges of third-degree aggravated assault and resisting arrest in both of those cases. It was unclear when he was released from jail on those charges, which were all placed on warrants.
