Lions Clubs induct new members
Recently the Phelps and Land O’ Lakes Lions Club held an awards and new member induction ceremony at the Historic Gateway Lodge. The evening’s event was introduced by Lion Steve Chandler in the presence of the Lions District Governor Don Meeder and the Lions Zone Chair Hollie Larkin. The new members that were inducted were John Huza, Alyssa Imse and Gretchen Vespo, all sponsored by Lion John Voss; inductee Bret Miller was sponsored by Lion Pete Schindelholz. Missing from the induction was Stefan Anderson sponsored by Lion Scott McPherson, and Dean Imse and Joe Vespo both sponsored by Lion John Voss.
TNC and Forest Service plant trees along Ontonagon River Watershed
According to a July 5 release from The Nature Conservancy in Michigan, the conservancy, in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service, with the help of contractors, planted some 51,000 native conifer tree seedlings across approximately 170 acres in the East Branch Ontonagon River Watershed and the Perch River Watershed of the Ottawa National Forest near Kenton in May.
Land O’ Lakes organizations working towards conserving around 1,400 acres
LAND O’ LAKES, Wis. (WJFW) - Here in the Northwoods, we are surrounded by nature, and to stay close to nature, sometimes land must be preserved. That's why one community is working to conserve hundreds of acres of forest within their area. Not far from each other in the Land O' Lakes area are two privately owned pieces of property that are currently in the process of being conserved. Joe Hovel, the Director of Partners for Forestry, stated that this wouldn’t be possible without the Forest Legacy Program, designed to help states conserve land for future generations. The program assists states in purchasing land and, in this case, provides additional support.
