NASCAR driver Austin Dillon has been almost universally lambasted by his colleagues after taking out two cars en route to a win Sunday.

On the final lap of the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond Raceway, Dillon was in second place behind Joey Logano . Needing a win to secure a spot in the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs, Dillon bumped Logano’s car from behind and sent it sliding into the wall. The third-place car, driven by Denny Hamlin , looked to take advantage of the collision and speed past the two. Dillon, however, clipped Hamlin’s rear bumper as he was passing him. Hamlin also went into the wall as Dillon crossed the finish line for the win.

Naturally, Logano and Hamlin were furious with the move. Logano even went as far as trashing Dillon’s driving abilities and claiming he’s never been good.

“He had no intentions to race,” Logano told reporters. “I beat him fair and square under restart, and he just pulls a chicken-shit move. He’s a piece of crap! The kid — he sucks! He’s sucked his whole career, and now he’s gonna be in the playoffs. Good for him, I guess.”

Hamlin claimed that allowing Dillon to take such drastic measures for a playoff spot makes NASCAR look bad.

“This is what the young short-track racers see,” Hamlin said, “and they think that this is OK because they watch the professionals on Sunday — that are supposed to act like adults — just do dumb shit and it’s just amazing that it’s allowed.

“I don’t fault him because he’s completely desperate, right? He’s 30th in points. He jumps 20 spots in points, or whatever the hell it is. His season’s saved. Now, he’ll have to pay repercussions down the line for this, but it’s so worth it from his standpoint because there’s no guard rails or rules that say, ‘Don’t do that,’ and there’s no one in the tower that has any problem with it. We’re never, ever gonna get taken seriously as a sport because we have no real officiating.”
