By Tim Whelan Jr., The MetroWest Daily News,
2 hours agoAfter combing over statistics and results, and with the guidance of local athletic directors and coaches, we at the Daily News selected All-Stars for baseball, softball, boys and girls lacrosse , boys volleyball , boys and girls tennis, boys and girls track and field and rugby.
Although the sports and skill sets may vary, there’s no denying that this group put up otherworldly numbers this spring while helping their respective teams find success – whether that be on the diamond, field, court or track.
Without further ado, the Daily News presents its 2024 All-Stars for softball:
Katie Anderson, Medway
This junior captain and outfielder was the Mustangs’ offensive MVP, batting .462 with a 1.485 OPS to go with seven home runs and 27 RBIs as they went 13-7 in reaching the Division 3 state tournament. Anderson also smacked four triples and scored 27 runs. “Katie had a monster year at the plate, delivering multiple home runs and extra-base hits,” said coach Chris Reding. “Her power drove in runs when we needed them most.” Also the girls basketball team’s offensive MVP, Anderson hopes to study journalism or communications in college.
Priya Bedard, Medway
The junior catcher, captain and returning Daily News All-Star batted .548, smacking 34 hits with a home run, 25 RBIs and 27 runs on her way to Tri-Valley League Small co-MVP honors. Bedard also stole 10 bases and had a .618 on-base percentage. Behind the plate, she made just one error and caught two of the four runners who dared try stealing, also picking off four runners. “Priya is a natural-born leader on and off the field,” said coach Chris Reding. “Priya is a true ‘field general’ and keeps her teammates motivated throughout a game or practice.”
Kelsey Blanchette, Lincoln-Sudbury

In the process, she went over 600 strikeouts and 100 hits for her high school career. The Dual Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year who was also a Daily News All-Star in field hockey will attend the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine, where she will study communications and media arts while playing softball.

The junior first baseman and captain returned as a Daily News All-Star after helping the Panthers reach the Division 1 state tourney. On the spring, Boozang batted .543 with 38 hits, 19 RBIs and 20 runs scored while starting every game. She also had an on-base percentage of.568, slugged.814 and stole eight bases on her way to a second straight Hockomock League all-star nod. “Sarah is a great leader for our program,” said coach Breanna Shaffer. “She shows up and works hard every day.”

Ava Cossette. Tri-County
This senior four-year varsity starter at shortstop closed out a stellar prep career in style, batting .500 with 39 hits, 18 walks, 49 runs, 22 RBIs and 40 stolen bases, leading the Cougars to a second Mayflower League title and their first-ever state vocational championship. Cossette closed her prep career with a .629 batting average, 105 hits, 55 walks, 62 RBIs, 119 runs and 110 stolen bases. “Ava’s been a tremendous player for Tri-County over the years,” said Cougars coach Stephanie Caffrey. “She is consistent in all situations and incredibly dependable at the plate and on the bases.” Cossette will attend Sacred Heart University.

A captain, Lenox led the Hawks with a .434 batting average (36 hits) along with two home runs and 23 RBIs while only striking out four times. She had 12 postseason hits in the Hawks’ five games, including a walk-off double to defeat Triton, 10-9, in the state quarterfinals. “Audrey has been a tremendous student-athlete on and off the field,” said Bowen, who coached Lenox in basketball and softball.

On the spring, McLeod went 17-4 with a 1.65 earned run average and 146 strikeouts while also batting .465 with 21 runs. The two-time Colonial Athletic League all-star and Hudson resident helped the Eagles win the Central Mass. The returning Hockomock League all-star also smacked seven doubles for Milford, which returned to the Division 2 state tournament. “Cae has the ability to change the game with one swing of the bat at any time … a true gamer that will keep growing, which is scary for those we will play,” said Scarlet Hawks coach Steve DiVitto.
Olivia Schultz, Natick
A returning Daily News All-Star, this senior sparkplug who goes by Livy was again stellar at catcher for Natick, earning Bay State Conference co-MVP honors after batting .455 with a .526 on-base percentage and an .894 slugging percentage (1.420 OPS), amassing five home runs, 19 RBIs and 26 runs. Janelle Scirocco, Nipmuc
A three-time Dual Valley Conference all-star, Scirocco was the league’s best hitter in 2024, batting .580 (40-for-69) with three home runs and 42 RBIs to go with a .855 slugging percentage in helping lead the Warriors to an 18-4 season that included a trip to the Division 3 Round of 16.
