MEMPHIS, Tenn. - A man who was held up at gunpoint was shot trying to run away from the scene, according to police.

Officers went to a home appliances store on the 5200 block of Summer Avenue after 2 a.m. Sunday morning where a man injured in both his legs from gunfire was sent in non-critical condition to the hospital, Memphis Police said.

He told officers he was standing behind his truck when two men brandishing firearms took his wallet and truck keys, police said. He ran from them toward Summer when a gunshot struck him in the leg.

He was unable to provide a description of the robbers.

Police found a shell casing next to the truck, a Dodge Ram, and saw blood near its driver's-side door.

A security guard working at a nearby business told officers he heard a gunshot, then saw someone run and get into a tan-colored sedan parked on Summer.

The guard said he saw that the Dodge's door open. He approached it and found the victim.

The sedan sped away going westbound on Summer.
