Memphis Grizzlies fans were totally hyped for the return of Zach Edey after the highly-touted rookie missed the last five games due to a left ankle injury.

The No. 9 overall pick of the 2024 NBA Draft returned to action on Thursday against the New Orleans Pelicans. Unfortunately, Edey's time on the floor did not last for very long.

After just nine minutes of action, Edey was forced to exit the game after rolling his right ankle during a defensive play. It did not look good.

While on the floor, Edey reportedly uttered some heartbreaking words that could shed light on the severity of this injury.

“[Expletive] man, I just want to play,” he said (h/t Grizzlies reporter Jessica Benson on X, formerly Twitter).

It's hard not to feel sympathy for this young man, who has once again been forced to the sidelines.

    Bleach Report

For what it's worth, Edey returned to the bench after getting himself checked in the locker room for a few minutes. It does seem like the Grizzlies will hold him out for the remainder of the game, though.
