MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man has been sentenced to life in prison on Friday after being convicted of first-degree murder.

Darrell Peterson received a life sentence for the 2020 murder of Patricia Bryant, according to the Shelby County District Attorney’s Office.

Peterson was also sentenced to an additional 15 years for each count of attempted murder and 10 years for employing a firearm during a felony.

This will result in an effective sentence of life plus 25 years at the Tennessee Department of Corrections. The sentences will run consecutively.

The State says they argued for the maximum sentence due to Peterson’s extensive criminal history, the severity of the offense, the community, and the wishes of the victim’s family.

According to reports, it started when a fight broke out on Knob Drive in Frayser between several women who were armed with knives was streamed live on Facebook. That is when Peterson showed up with a gun.

Peterson fired the gun at two people and missed them but hit Patricia Bryant. Byrant was standing in her yard holding her baby grandson when she was killed.
